Der Brocken (volkstümlich Blocksberg genannt) ist mit 1141,2 m ü. NHN der höchste Berg im Mittelgebirge Harz, in Sachsen-Anhalt und in ganz Norddeutschland.
Er befindet sich in der Gemarkung Schierke der Stadt Wernigerode im Landkreis Harz. Der Berg und seine Umgebung im Nationalpark Harz sind eines der beliebtesten Ausflugsziele Deutschlands. Der Brocken ist der dominanteste Berg in Deutschland. Die schmalspurige Brockenbahn fährt seit 1899 zum Gipfel, abgesehen von Unterbrechungen infolge von Zerstörungen im Zweiten Weltkrieg und später aufgrund der deutschen Teilung. Die seit den 1930er Jahren vorhandenen Sendeanlagen auf dem Brocken haben aufgrund der exponierten Lage im Hochharz eine große technische Reichweite.
